I actually started writing this post a couple of weeks ago but things got pretty hectic over here. A perk of being a teacher is having time off during the summer. I usually try to avoid the “s” word during the summer, but it’s been difficult to avoid “school” these past few weeks. Don’t get me wrong… I’m not whining or complaining. Just stating the facts. My summer vacation has been good. It’s just had a few school related interruptions.
Interruption #1:
The last week of June was my wife’s first full week off of summer vacation… yeah, she’s a teacher too. It’s a bummer that our school calendars are staggered. But anyway, I accompanied her to a luncheon with other teachers from her department. (She really only brought me along so I could take their picture… haha!)

Although they were celebrating, my wife still had quite a bit of work to do in her classroom before she could go into vacation mode.

There was a lot of work to be done. We’re really trying to help my wife reduce stress and anxiety by simplifying her classroom and purging a lot of junk that she doesn’t really need anymore.
Interruption #2 & #3
I am working on getting an authorization to teach science added to my credential. I spent the end of June in an Intro to Chemistry class. The last time I was in a chemistry class was in 1993. I’m amazed how a lot of it started to come back to me.

I am currently taking an Intro to Physics class. So far, I’m enjoying it more than chemistry… mostly because I get to play around with stuff. I am also thankful that I’ve got two really great lab partners!

Just two more days of this Physics class then I’ll be back on vacation mode. I’ve got a little more than two weeks of summer left before I have to head back to my school… Doh, I said the “s” word again!
How are you spending your summer?
