Father’s Day came early this year.

Typically, I do long runs on Saturday but when my buddy Julian is able to meet up I’m down for anything active. He’s one of my best friends from college and was my best man at my wedding. Julian said that he wanted to give the trails at the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park a try. So we planned to meet at 8am.
I got there about 20 minutes early which gave me time to post this selfie to dedicate today’s activity to Asher #Active4Asher and help bring attention to Rare Chromosome Disorder Awareness. Read more about Asher and his family here.
Julian arrived on time and we made our way to the Visitor Center to sign in and pick up a trail map.

We didn’t really know what to expect from these trails. Personally, I’m a newbie when it comes to riding more technical trails. I may have bitten off more than I could chew during the first couple of big hills–it wasn’t just a steep incline, but very rocky with lots of turns. I admit that I ended up walking up the tougher spots. After the first two big hills, things were a lot more my speed– fire roads and single tracks. We made sure to enjoy the view from the top.

After our ride, we made our way down to Laguna Beach for lunch. Although Julian isn’t vegan, he chose a spot where I could eat: The Stand – Natural Foods. All of the items on the menu were vegan and I was able to find some gluten free options!
Back in college, Julian and I used to be on the IVCF worship team together. Today we planned ahead and packed our guitars for some worship by beach. We found the perfect spot!

Today could be summed up in four words: Fitness, food, friendship, and fellowship. I am grateful. 🙂
